The function was the celebration of Orissa Divas, organised by the Lucknow Oriya Samaj and Department of Culture, UP Government.
The event had a unique feel to it, with guests chit-chatting in Oriya, women clad in Sambhal puri saris, and unique dance performances of Odissi and Dhumpa music by the artistes. The inauguration ceremony by notable poet, painter, dramatist and writer, Jagannath Prasad Das was followed by a storming performance of Pancha Badhya percussion (Drum, Conch, Clarinet,Bells and Jhanjha) set the pace of the evening while the soothing sound of Shankh (Conch) gave a tranquil feel. Notable Odissi dancer, Jyotsna Sahoo���s beautiful dance performance called Avinaya-Sita Harana had the audience spellbound. Her performance was followed by a group dance on Durga Stuti by Jyotsna Sahoo and her group.
The artistes��� remarkable balancing was a treat to watch. Splendid acrobatics in another group dance Mokhya or Salvation elicited a standing ovation. Also spotted: Bureaucrats GB Patnaik, Bhagvan Shankar (SEZ Director), SR Lakha, VN Garg and director SGPGI Dr AK Mahapatra.
